Castro Valley Unified School District
Megan's Law Volunteer Screening Request
Clearance through September of next year.
Dear School Volunteer:
Thank you for your interest in volunteering in our district. The important work of schools is enhanced on a daily basis by valuable contributions of parent and community volunteers. The Castro Valley Unified School District has implemented a screening process for all who wish to volunteer their services. The purpose of this screening is to ensure that no one working with our children has a record of sexual misconduct, thus providing a safe and positive environment for our students. Individuals interested in volunteering at a school must complete this request to volunteer form prior to initiating any volunteer activity. This process will be repeated every year for all individuals. Once it has been determined that the potential volunteer has not been identified on the Megan's Law list, the principal will approve your request.

Your request will be screened through the Megan’s Law list posted through the Office of the State Attorney General. In order to complete the screening process we ask that you complete the information below and return it to your school secretary. You will need to complete one form for each site where you will be volunteering. This form is considered confidential and will only be seen by the school secretary, Principal, Director of Student Services (or designated support staff), and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office if necessary. This final list of approved parents may be shared with teachers, staff members, and parents who are responsible for volunteers.

Sincerely,
Jim Negri
Superintendent

Child Nutrition - NutriKids Point-of-Sale System

The CVUSD Child Nutrition Department is pleased to announce the implementation of our new Point-of-Sale System (POS) for the school lunch and breakfast meal service.

The POS System
The POS system is a means of exchanging and collecting information about our school cafeteria meal service. The fundamental change is that we are moving away from a paper-driven system that relies on manual student rosters and lunch tickets to an electronic system that uses an electronic database and electronic registers.

How the POS System Works
The cafeteria system will include touch-screen POS terminals (computers) that are connected via the internet to the central Child Nutrition database. Students will ‘purchase’ their meal at the POS terminal much like a purchase is processed at a store.

Students will be identified in the system by their student ID number. Students can either enter their 5-digit student number manually on a keypad or they can scan an ID card that contains their student number in barcode format. The student meal account includes the most recent school photo so cafeteria staff can verify that the correct ID number has been entered.

Students can pay for their meal with cash or parents can choose to pre-load a student’s meal account with funds and the cost of meals or food items would then be deducted from that pre-paid balance.

Student eligibility for free and reduced-price meals is noted in the system and those transactions are processed in the same manner as the full-pay students. As always, eligibility for the free and reduced-price meals is invisible to students and that information is only available to cafeteria staff.

Prepayment of Meals
Prepayment of meals is now made by placing funds in a student account rather than purchasing meal tickets. Prepayment may be made in several ways:

  • Cash or check sent in to the school cafeteria to be placed on account. If sending in a check, please note the student’s name and ID number in the lower left corner of the check.
  • Online at MyNutriKids.com.
With the POS system, the prepayment is loaded into the student’s account and helps to take the burden of handling cash, or a cash equivalent like a lunch ticket, out of the student’s hands. Please note that prepaid funds do NOT reside on the student ID card (like a gift card) and once the funds are deposited with the District, there is no risk of loss.

On-Line Prepayment Option
The MyNutriKids.com on-line information system provides parents with a fast, easy and secure method to add money to a student’s school meal account using a credit, debit card or a PayPal account. In addition to the on-line payment feature, parents may also check a student’s current school meal account balance and see the student’s transaction history (including the student’s meal choices) via the MyNutriKids.com account. Features of this service include:

  • Secure online prepayments via credit / debit card or PayPal™ account
  • 24/7 self-service access to balances and transaction history
  • Low balance email notification based on individual pre-set levels

Please note that parents do not have to utilize the on-line payment feature to setup a MyNutriKids.com account and utilize the other features offered there.

The On-Line Prepayment Process
The payment process begins when money is deposited into a student’s account using the MyKids service from MyNutrikids.com.

  • More than one student can be tied to a parent account and multiple deposits can be made in one transaction.
  • The deposit amount can be placed against a credit card, debit card, PayPal account balance or a checking account linked with PayPal.
  • Once the transaction is finalized, the transaction is downloaded into the District’s POS system where it will update the student’s account balance.

Availability
The on-line prepayment option is now available for all school sites. Please note that

  • the student’s 5-digit ID number is required to add them to a MyNutriKids.com account. The student ID number can be obtained from the school office.
  • there is a flat fee of $1.75 per transaction. The fee is $1.75 no matter the amount of the deposit or the number of deposits made on a single transaction. For example,
  • if a parent loads $10.00 on one student account, the transaction would be $11.75.
  • If a parent loads $30.00 each on the accounts of three different students, the transaction would be $91.75 (3 x $30.00 + $1.75).
  • if a parent loads $100.00 on one student account and $50.00 on a different student account, the transaction would be $151.75 ($100 + $50 + $1.75)

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions/comments/suggestions about the POS system or any other Child Nutrition Svcs matter. We may be reached by phone at 537-3000, x1390 or by e-mail at ChildNutrition@cv.k12.ca.us

Teacher Qualification Notification

To: Parents/Guardians:

Your child is attending a school receiving Title I federal funds through the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. This Federal law requires that parents be notified of their right to know the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher(s) in core academic subject areas, including the following:

  1. The type of state credential or license that the teacher holds.
  2. The education level and subject area of the teacher’s college degree(s). All teachers have a bachelor’s degree, and many teachers have graduate degrees beyond the bachelor’s, such as a master’s or doctoral degree.

In addition to the qualifications of the teacher, if a teacher’s aide provides your child services, you may also request information about his or her qualifications. All of our teacher’s aides have met the Federal qualifications.

Parents must also be notified when a teacher who is not “highly qualified” under NCLB requirements has taught their child for four or more consecutive weeks.

At this Elementary School, all teachers are fully credentialed and authorized to teach in California, and all have completed the Federal NCLB paperwork requirements.

You may contact the school to request the qualifications of your child’s teacher and aides.
Thank you for your interest and involvement in your child’s education.

Sincerely,
Castro Valley Unified School District
